å andra sidan side is a paraphrase of a fictional person from Thy in north-western Jutland and is created with needle and thread on recycled textiles. The work consists of:
A linen tablecloth showing a standing human figure in a scale of 1:1. The person is sketched and filled out with inspiration from collected photographic material, printed as a screen print, and further developed with embroidery threads of different weights.
Embroidered handkerchiefs that underscore the title of the work.
å andra sidan side is an exploration with needle and thread, in which the visual and textual merge, thereby encouraging the elimination of the contradiction between front and reverse. Suspended freely in the room, allowing the viewer to experience the work from both sides simultaneously, enhances this dichotomy.

On Pia Skogberg and Mette Hegnhøj
Visual artist Pia Skogberg and author Mette Hegnhøj's collaborative artistic project unfolds in the space of tension between visual art and poetry.
They work on reconfiguring, based on materials from second-hand shops: drawing with thread, writing with scissors and using their own sketches and graphic printing methods, or books, as a model for the final work.
Skogberg and Hegnhøj are particularly fascinated by the reverse, the behind, or other side, of materials; the invisible, quiet sides of life and embroidery, which they further explore in their work å andra sidan.

The KP22-digital Jury would like to award

Variations sur le thème Marcel Proust by Computer Lars (4-10-1-8-11-13-5-3-7-6-2-9-12) (Asker Bryld Staunæs, Benjamin Asger Krog Møller og Marcel Proust).

This is a work that demands much of the viewer's time and attention, but which expands and reveals more and more, the deeper one moves down through its various parts. Based on the work of Marcel Proust and involving a wide range of different techniques (image generation with the machine learning model BigGANxCLIP, GPT-3 language model, etc.), the work examines what artificial intelligence signifies. But nothing is quite as it seems at first glance. Gradually, the work undermines itself in a self-reflexive way, creating surprising side avenues and offshoots. Marcel Proust is not what you might think: perhaps he is even a piece of code, perhaps an exchange of signs or perhaps a form of linguistic virus that questions intelligence, signs and language itself.

About H+H Travel Grant

H+H Travel Grant was founded in 2020 by Per Haansbæk and Hans-E Møller-Hansen, with the aim of giving talented artists the opportunity to seek inspiration internationally.
The grant was a travel grant of DKK 10,000, and was awarded in 2021 and 2022.
It was the founders themselves who, among the accepted works at this year's KP, selected the prize-winning work based on the following criteria;

The award winner has been selected by a jury consisting of Pernille Lærke Andersen (KP's board), Peter Flejsborg (Galleri Profilen) and artist Jesper Rasmussen, who offer the following motivation for their choice:

In his avatar video Dear Rock of the Real World, Jonatan Wejnold depicts a digital universe with an accomplished aesthetic and a strong poetic undertone.
You are led into a digital flower world of great, sensual beauty which is emphasized by music that is both simple and seductive.
But beauty has a downside, an inherent dystopia, where the ecological catastrophe threatens so that it all capsizes and perishes, and where glitch and flaws appear in the picture at intervals.
With its digital tools, the video is a convincing manifestation that points to an uncertain future.

SPRING is the Artists' Easter Exhibition talent show with a handful of artists who in recent seasons have made a strong impact on the juried exhibition KP.
It is KP's board that selects the artists for SPRING.

SPRING22 will be shown alongside KP22 in Kunsthal Aarhus 9 April - 8 May 2022.

The purpose of SPRING is

  • to highlight significant artistic expressions and investigations that may otherwise have difficulty finding a public platform
  • to support the individual artist in his/her career
  • in a wider perspective, to strengthen the upcoming arts

SPRING has three major focus

  • Care of talent: Early on in the process, the artists are assigned a qualified supervisor who advises on the individual works. Artists and supervisors collaborate on the overall exhibition and on the form and content of a catalogue.
  • Exchange: A platform is created for new networks and collaborations artists in between.
  • Communication: The relationship between works and the audience is developed by publishing catalogues, handouts, launching public talks, etc.

From 15 January - 6 February 2022 The Artists Easter Exhibition (Kunstnernes Påskeudstilling) invites - for the 76th time - to submit works to KP22, where all kinds of visual art can be displayed. We hope to receive works in a very wide range of media and forms of expression for evaluation by the selection committee, which this year consists of the artists Lillibeth Cuenca Rasmussen, Lars Heiberg, Peter Land, Jeanette Land Schou and Søren Taaning (all DK).

KP22 will be shown in Kunsthal Aarhus as a physical exhibition in the period 9 April - 8 May 2022.

All artists, regardless of age, education, nationality or place of residence can submit works to KP22.
Individual artists as well as groups are invited to submit works.

Online application for KP22  takes place 15 January to 6 February 2022.
DEADLINE 6 February 23:59 (midnight)
The selection is based on uploaded digital image files as well as other submitted digital files or links to files. No physical works will be reciewed for the selection.

Application fee is 550 DKK (74 €) and covers the purchase of one journal number.
Up to 6 works can be submitted on one journal number.

NOTE! pure digital works that experiment with the online format's unlimited virtual space must be submitted to KP22-digital, which has its own OPEN CALL and its own selection committee consisting of Lone Koefoed Hansen, Mark Tholander and Anders Visti. Task of the Selection Committee

The Selection Committee, appointed by KP's board, selects the works for KP22 on the basis of the submitted digital files + possibly project descriptions or statements of artistic intentions, if provided by the submitter.
During the evaluation, the Selection Committee gets no further information about the submitter than journal number and, if applicable, the name by reasoned request.

Artistic criteria only
The Selection Committee select the works solely on the basis of artistic criteria. All other criteria are irrelevant to selection.
The whole Selection Committee evaluate all the submitted works.

Selection Conditions
The works for KP are selected over three rounds based on uploaded digital image files or video or audio files submitted on usb disk og by wetransfer.com.
First round:
All material is evaluated. If there is one committee member that wants to review one or more of the artist's submitted works, then ALL of that artist's works continues to the second round.
Second round:

Søren Taaning

born 1964 – based in Kibæk (Western Jutland).
Together with René Schmidt, Søren Taaning was one of the founders of Deep Forest Art Land, and today he and Schmidt are part of the artistic management for the site. In his artistic practice, Taaning works with a social, participant-based and community-debating art.

Research profile
My research lies within digital technology studies, biased by aesthetics and the arts; it is
interdisciplinary combining design, cultural studies, arts, and technology with theory and
methods found in critical computing, co-design, and feminist theory. Through this
interdisciplinary research and with a solid foundation in design and arts, I investigate how IT,
design, and socio-cultural contexts affect our everyday and in turn how this affects ways that
digital technologies might change society and everyday situations. A key point is to think of
design and designing as something through which we might think of critical alternatives to
the way we live, love, and think.

Task of the Selection Committee

The Selection Committee, appointed by KP's board, selects the works for KP22-digital on the basis of the submitted digital files + possibly project descriptions or statements of artistic intentions, if provided by the submitter.
During the evaluation, the Selection Committee gets no further information about the submitter than journal number and, if applicable, the name by reasoned request.

Artistic criteria only
The Selection Committee select the works solely on the basis of artistic criteria. All other criteria are irrelevant to selection.
The whole Selection Committee evaluate all the submitted works.

Selection procedure
The Selection Committee members are given three days for a preparatory review, after which they meet in Kunsthal Aarhus for the decisive selection, which takes place over three rounds.
First round:
All material is evaluated. If there is one committee member that wants to review one or more of the artist's submitted works, then ALL of that artist's works continues to the second round.
Second round:
Individual works can be selected. If there are at least two committee members who want to review one or more of the artist's works, then these specific works continue to the third round.
Third round:
Finally and decisively - here the works are selected for KP. There must be at least two committee members (simple majority) for a work to be accepted.
